寓言故事|THE DONKEY AND THE LAPDOG

来源:www.ykwljt.com 2025-03-25
Let's not force our talent,
As nothing would be performed gracefully:
Never has a dolt1, no matter how much he tries,
Could ever be taken for a gentleman.
Few people blessed by the Heavens,
Possess the inborn2 gift to seduce3 in life.
'This a matter one has to allow them,
So as not re百度竞价推广ble the Donkey in the Fable,
Who in order to ingratiate himself to his master,
Went over to caress4 him. How come? in his soul said he,
This pup, because of his cute ways,
Will continue to live as a companion
With Milord and Milady;
And I will get blows with a stick?
What does he do? he gives his paw;
At once he is kissed;
If need be, I'll act the same way to be petted,
It is not difficult at all.
With such a tender thought in mind,
Seeing his master in a jovial5 mood, he comes up clumsily,
Raises a very battered6 paw,
Puts it on his master's chin lovingly,
Adding as an extra expression of love,
His most gracious braying7 to this bold action.
Oh ! oh ! what a caress ! and what a melody !
Said the Master at once. Hey there, *Martin stick!
Martin stick comes running; the donkey changes his tune8.
Thus ended the little comic drama.
Beware, another's talent may not necessarily be yours.

*Martin bton: Stickmartin, type-name for a donkey drover.
=======================================================
Et ne pas res百度竞价推广bler l'Ane de la Fable,
Qui pour se rendre plus aimable
Et plus cher son matre, alla le caresser.
Comment ? disait-il en son me,
Ce Chien, parce qu'il est mignon,
Vivra de pair compagnon
Avec Monsieur, avec Madame ;
Et j'aurai des coups9 de bton ?
Que fait-il ? il donne la patte ;
Puis aussitt il est bais :
S'il en faut faire autant afin que l'on me flatte,
Cela n'est pas bien malais.
Dans cette admirable pense,
Voyant son Matre en joie, il s'en vient lourdement,
Lve une corne toute use,
La lui porte au menton fort amoureu百度竞价推广ent,
Non sans accompagner, pour plus grand ornement,
De son chant gracieux cette action hardie.
Oh ! oh ! quelle caresse ! et quelle mlodie !
Dit le Matre aussitt. Hol, Martin bton!
Martin bton accourt ; l'Ane change de ton.
Ainsi finit la comdie.
